Working from home, renting out a holiday home or providing bed and breakfast - you may have to pay business rates on your property
A summary valuation is issued if an amendment is made to the rateable value of a property. If you receive a summary valuation, you should check the details shown on it carefully. If you are satisfied they are correct, there is nothing more you need to do. You will receive a business rates bill from your local authority once it has been notified of the amendment.
If the details on the summary valuation are incorrect, your business rates bill might be affected. Please make sure that the property you occupy is the one shown in the Address in Rating List box and that the property description and details are correct. If any details are wrong – for example, your summary valuation includes accommodation that you no longer occupy – please amend and return your summary valuation to the Valuation Office. The address is on the covering letter and you can expect to receive a reply within 20 working days. Please remember to keep a copy of your amended valuation for future reference.
If you need further help, you can write to, email or telephone your local Valuation Office. A Valuation Office Agency helpline - 0845 602 1507 - is available. You can speak directly to someone who is expert in this area and who can deal with your query.
